Applications, Challenges, and Future Perspectives of Omics in Agriculture
摘要
Omics technologies, which include genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics, have become extremely useful in agricultural research and development. The agricultural sector has seen a radical transformation due to omics technologies, which have made it simpler to pinpoint the genes associated with desired traits like yield, stress tolerance, and nutritional value. They support breeding initiatives to create better crop varieties and help us comprehend the interactions between plants and pathogens that lead to disease resistance. By maximizing resource utilization and tracking crop health, omics techniques also improve the nutritional value of crops and facilitate precision farming. Omics technologies are promising, but they also come with a lot of challenges. Bioinformatics knowledge and sophisticated computational tools are needed to handle and interpret enormous volumes of data. It is time-consuming and difficult to integrate omics data with other omics and phenotypic data, and validation of omics-derived findings through experimental methods is laborious. Genetically modified organisms and their effects on human health and the environment raise additional ethical issues that must be addressed. These issues include intellectual property rights and genetic modification. Furthermore, hurdles still exist in the form of affordability and accessibility of omics technologies, especially for practitioners and researchers in developing nations.
