The article presents the results of investigating the causes of the destruction of silicate bricks in fresh masonry. According to the results of X-ray phase analysis, sodium chloride was detected in the composition of the damaged brick, which was likely used as a de-icing agent to remove ice from the floor slab prior to the commencement of masonry work. Microscopic examinations of the structure of the damaged brick confirm the presence of salt deposits on calcium hydrosilicates and quartz particles, which led to the development of crystallization pressure and the brick’s destruction in the form of delamination into thin layers.
