Climate science has become a critical issue for development stakeholders and State parties as the urgency of addressing climate change intensifies. Global warming and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have driven widespread environmental degradation, impacting human existence and the ecosystems that support government, industry, and academia. Reports, such as the 2015 Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, highlight the dire need for immediate action to combat climate-induced ecological degradation with significant socioeconomic consequences. This study emphasizes the importance of integrating these scientific findings into policies promoting eco-friendly innovation within Nigeria’s emerging economy. Adopting Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) and renewable energy solutions within government, academia, and industry is essential for sustainable development and economic resilience. Such measures can generate climate-focused employment and entrepreneurial opportunities through the introduction of electric vehicles, green agricultural practices, and other low-carbon technologies. The study also calls for enhanced funding from multilateral development banks (MDBs) and access to Official Development Aid (ODA) to support climate change initiatives and research on sustainable energy solutions. Additionally, a National Adaptation Plan and Mitigation Strategy, including the domestication of international environmental agreements, is vital for Nigeria to transition toward a clean-energy-driven economy. Establishing legal timelines for this transition and creating a collaborative framework among academia, industry, and government—aligned with the Triple Helix model—will foster inclusive financing and innovation. The study employs a qualitative case study approach, using questionnaires and interviews to assess climate report integration at national and sub-national levels in Nigeria. Expected outcomes include identifying policy gaps and offering solutions to address the socioeconomic impacts of climate change. By providing actionable insights, this research supports sustainable development and serves as a foundation for further studies at local levels, enhancing climate resilience in communities directly affected by environmental changes.
