Digital Tools and Sustainable Practices: Impacts on SME Labor Dynamics

This article investigates the impact of incorporating sustainable practices and integrating digital tools on the labor dynamics of SMEs in Azerbaijan. By analyzing survey responses from 24 SMEs in diverse industries (manufacturing, services, technology, and others), the effects of these variables on employee motivation, performance, and labor relations were determined. Regression analysis was employed in this study in order to examine the hypotheses pertaining to the favorable impacts of sustainability practices and digital tools on the dynamics of the workforce. Incorporating sustainability practices and digital tool integration independently improve employee motivation and performance, with a synergistic effect observed on labor relations, according to the findings. Research findings indicate that SMEs in the country have a lot to gain from the embrace of sustainability and digitalization, not only for their efficiency in operations and the environment but also in the inspiration to a motivated and active workforce. This paper therefore sheds light on SMEs strategically embedding sustainable practices and digital tools to enhance their resilience and competitiveness in the global market environment. It is important to point out that for future research, other aspects are also highlighted that include sector-specific analyses, longitudinal studies, comparative works across different areas, and the role of the perspective of employees in examining and deepening knowledge on labor dynamics relative to sustainability and digital transformation.
