Assessment of the Crop Water Stress Index (CWSI) in Cotton Development

The population growth is causing a daily rise in the demand for water. Hence, the effective administration of water resources is more crucial. The water demand of crops is crucial for achieving optimal development and output. Efficient crop production depends on evaluating this data at the right moment, particularly during the growing season when water consumption is at its peak. The present study aimed to examine the water requirements of cotton plants for the period spanning from 2018 to 2023. A study was undertaken to investigate the impact of water stress on crop productivity. The objective was to examine the utilization of the crop water stress indicator (CWSI) by analyzing satellite data on land surface temperature (LST) and air temperature. The result compared with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), normalized difference age index (NDWI), and precipitation. The CWSI values obtained were compared to those of NDVI and NDWI. The study demonstrates that the NDWI index exhibits a more robust connection with CWSI compared to NDVI. Furthermore, this correlation demonstrates disparities in various regions across distinct precipitation zones.
