The Role of the Education System in the Formation of Environmental Responsibility of Youth

The article explains the meaning of the concept of “environmental responsibility”, notes the need for teaching environmental education and the formation of an environmentally oriented worldview among the younger generation. Environmental responsibility of a person is the most crucial indicator of his harmony with the surrounding nature, which determines his entire way of life. Being an important part of the overall responsibility of the individual, environmental responsibility is manifested in his spiritual life and his actions. The formation of environmental responsibility among youth is nowadays being considered in the context of the development and application of environmental disciplines in the educational process, which serve as the basis for the practical application of environmental ethics principles. These characteristics of environmental responsibility depend on knowledge on the moral and legal norms governing people’s relationships regarding interaction with nature. The article also provides an explanation of the concept of “environmental responsibility” from the point of view of various scientists.
