Technostress in Remote Work: The Influence of Artificial Intelligence Tools on Work-Life Balance

This study investigates the complex relationship between the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technostress among remote workers, focusing on the impact on work-life balance. Using a robust scientific framework, the study analyzed data from 300 Azerbaijani employees representing 30 different organizations. The study took a mixed-methods approach, including the use of a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) framework. The study found that AI technologies in the workplace have both positive and negative consequences. On the one hand, they increase productivity and efficiency. On the other hand, they increase stress levels, resulting in technostress and a negative impact on work-life balance. The findings show a substantial positive association between the use of AI tools and the prevalence of technostress, which then has a negative impact on people’ work-life balance. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the critical role of organizational support in mitigating these effects. It implies that, while supportive behaviors can promote work-life balance, they have limited efficacy in lowering stress induced by the usage of AI tools. This thorough investigation not only reveals the complexities of deploying AI technologies in remote work contexts, but it also provides significant insights into how to maximize the balance between technological advancement and employee welfare. The study advises future research to improve understanding of technostress in the digital era, emphasizing the importance of implementing a complete approach to handle the challenges associated with artificial intelligence in the workplace.
