Study of Surfactant Properties of Hexylbromide Complex of Imidazoline Based on 5-Norbornene-2-Carboxylic Acid and Diethylenetriamine

The article describes the synthesis process and research of norbornene-based imidazoline hexylbromide complex (NDI+C6H13Br), which is a new type of surface-active substance. At the initial stage, imidazoline was obtained from the interaction of norbornene carboxylic acid with diethylenetriamine. A complex with an alkyl halide was synthesized based on imidazoline and hexyl bromide obtained in the second stage. The composition and structure of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR and NMR spectroscopic methods. Then, the surface activity of the obtained complex was studied, and it was determined that the complex exhibits surface activity by reducing the surface tension value from 72.1 ± 0.2 mN/m to 33.8 mN/m in the range of 0.2–0.6% concentration. The synthesized complex was tested as an oil collector and oil dispersing reagent. This compound has been determined to have both an oil-collecting and an oil-dispersing effect. The complex showed an oil collector effect in drinking water and a dispersant effect in seawater in the form of a 5% aqueous solution and undiluted reagent. It was determined that the oil collection coefficient of the 5% aqueous solution of the complex was Kmax = 60.79 at τ = 23.0–152.0 h in drinking water, Kmax = 73.56 at τ = 23.0–152.0 h without dilution, and τ = 0–1.0 in drinking water without dilution. KD = 98.3% per h, in seawater τ = 0–152.0 h KD = 97.0–98.6% had an oil dispersing effect.
