Reducing Environmental Risks in Oil Production Using Self-Organizing Models

As is known, the oil industry is a complex system that is quite sensitive from an environmental point of view. Ecological safety issues are encountered in all areas of oil production, from drilling and development of wells to operation of production and injection wells and right up to well abandonment. In the history of oil production, there have been numerous cases where, for several reasons, environmental accidents occurred that caused enormous harm to the environment. At the same time, the build-up of bottom hole pressure to the reservoir value often takes a fairly significant period, leading to extended downtime and losses in oil production. Furthermore, quite often, there are complications associated with sticking a downhole pressure gauge in a well and the need for repair work to remove it, during which environmental safety risks arise. Taking this into account, it is relevant to use, in addition to existing methods, an alternative way – forecasting reservoir pressure based on already available information on similar measurements in the past and flow rates of interacting surrounding wells. The use of forecasting is possible for both extrapolation – the actual pressure forecast- and interpolation – restoring the pressure value in intermediate intervals. Similar interpolation forecast dependencies can be used to determine reservoir pressure, for example, in difficult conditions of the autumn-winter period based on available similar measurements in the spring-summer period.
