This chapter sketches the entangled discourses about the “Russian” and the “Serbian World” (Russkii mir/Srpski svet) with a focus on Orthodoxy. Originating in shared contexts since the nineteenth century, both spatial concepts were reproduced after 1991 in a highly modified way and in dense interaction. The connection of the Russian Orthodox Church with the concept of the “Russian World” and “Eurasia” is of growing importance in Russia’s attempts to legitimize its war against Ukraine since 2014 and the open war of aggression since 2022. Likewise, the Serbian Orthodox Church also plays a central role in fostering Serbian national values, which are at the core of the “Serbian World”, developing in direct interaction with the Russian concept.
