The forest, as a natural and geographical entity, constantly changes along with the evolving environmental conditions. However, the forest is inseparable from humans and society; thus, along with society, both the role of the forest and the depth of its understanding change as well. This study aimed to analyse the preferences for recreational areas and drivers of forest visiting trends, as well as the background of the respondents affecting their choices. This survey was conducted in April 2024. 217 respondents participated in the survey. The study revealed that priorities of recreational forest properties have not changed over the years, but changes have taken place in the selection of favourite activities in forests and benefits gained from forest recreation. This study found that nowadays people tend to walk and visit nature trails in the forest more, however berry and mushroom picking as a distinctive element of Lithuanian cultural heritage has been preserved. Positive trends in satisfaction with recreational areas were observed. Respondents would be interested in participating in programs from 1 to 3 h that provide relaxation in the forest.
