Corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability are crucial for the long-term success of the business. Companies must go beyond focusing solely on profits and address the needs of all stakeholders and ensure environment sustainability. Boards of directors, particularly women directors play a vital role in enhancing firms’ social responsibility, as they tend to prioritise the concerns of stakeholders and environmental well-being. Despite this, women continue to be in low proportion on boards globally. The present chapter explores how gender-diverse boards contribute to improved CSR and sustainability. It also examines the inhibitors for achieving gender parity on boards are proposes measures to increase women’s representation on boards, to enable the companies to transcend profit-driven motives and support environmental sustainability.
