Visually impaired people encounter many challenges in the real world, LEADOW is a proposed mobile app that empowers individuals with vision impairments to achieve independent mobility. It primarily aims to establish a supportive and accessible environment by guiding them to their desired destinations within buildings, considering the mobility challenges that blind and visually impaired persons face when moving around. The innovation of this user-friendly app facilitates indoor navigation using Bluetooth hardware transmitters called “Beacons” strategically placed throughout the building. The user’s smartphone receives Bluetooth signals from these installed beacons, which are then interpreted by the app to determine the user’s location accurately. After selecting their destination, the user is provided with audio instructions to effectively guide them towards it. LEADOW overcomes the limitations of other existing applications, by providing an easy-to-use indoor navigation system which significantly enhances the life of people with visual impairment.
