Regueira Martín focuses on Leticia Dolera’s work as a writer and director to analyse its portrayal of womanhood in contemporary Spain. Focusing on the film Requirements to Be a Normal Person [Requisitos para ser una persona normal] (2015) and the series Perfect Life [Vida perfecta] (2019–2021), Regueira Martín analyses the narrative and visual elements involved in the depiction of a new conception of womanhood in which self-fulfilment is no longer necessarily tied to traditional conceptions of womanhood involving heteronormative family formations, marriage and motherhood. Together, these two works depict the precarity and instability that characterises contemporary adulthood and the myriad of options available to women today outside the traditional roles mentioned above, underscoring the view of contemporary womanhood as an unfixed and constantly evolving stage that requires significant rerouting and reconsideration through one’s life.
