The process of digital transformation is facing a plethora of challenges. Some are particular to one particular context (a federal system, say, or a lack of central coordination). Others are found, in one form or another, almost everywhere institutions try to adapt to a world that changes much faster then their internal updating mechanisms were designed to deal with. Despite these obstacles, governmental organizations are not universal laggards in adopting technology and transforming the way they work and provide services; innovation can be found in all countries that the authors looked at, ranging from rapidly adopting digital tools in a moment of crisis to fostering collaborations with other stakeholders in the search for resources they do not posses. In the end, we think that the overall sentiment that readers of this book should remain with is cautious optimism. Public sector institutions need change, and this change is visible if you know where to look for it.
