Stable surgical fixation sets the foundation for early post-operative mobilisation that reduces the risk of post-operative wrist stiffness. However, peri-operative complications may occur, which often delay early mobilisation, leading to prolonged immobilisation resulting in post-operative wrist stiffness. Establishing a good rehabilitation programme is the first line of treatment for post-operative wrist stiffness. When improvement is lacking, wrist manipulation under general or peripheral anaesthesia may be initiated prior to surgical arthrolysis of the affected joints. Both open and arthroscopic arthrolysis produce similar and satisfactory results, and the choice of one over the other rests on the surgeon’s expertise and clinical judgement. Post-operative rehabilitation following arthrolysis is crucial in maintaining intra-operative gains in ranges of movement of the wrist.
