The paper presents the physical, mechanical and acoustic properties of tropical wood with potential in the construction of stringed musical instruments. Thus, three woody species from the family Taiwania cryptomerioides Hayata (Taiwania), Cryptomeria japonica (Japanese cedar) and Firmiana simplex (Chinese parasol) were investigated. The density, color parameters, sound propagation speed in the longitudinal direction, and the longitudinal modulus of elasticity were determined. The values ​​obtained were compared with those of spruce, highlighting similar values ​​in terms of density and sound propagation speeds. From the point of view of the anatomical structure, they have completely different characteristics from the standards used for spruce wood.
