Managing supply chains is a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem because, throughout its process, various performance measures and criteria need to considered, recognizing the trade-offs that exist between them. Effective decision-making is vital for manufacturing companies to ensure the efficient operation of their supply chains (SCs) and achieve optimal customer satisfaction while minimizing costs. This decision-making (DM) process occurs at three organizational levels: strategic, tactical, and operational or, in other words, at short-term and long-term DM levels. To address the conflicting nature of multiple criteria involved in decision-making, MCDM methods serve as smart tools. This paper focuses on reviewing MCDM frameworks and their applications in sustainable supply chains (SSCs) based on published papers from 2015 to 2023. A total of 148 papers have been selected and analyzed. Individual MCDM methods applied in SSCs have been reviewed and summarized. Despite the abundance of papers published on SC sustainability, there is a scarcity of review papers in this field. This study fills this gap and makes a significant contribution to the literature by being the first endeavor to analyze individual MCDM methods used in different aspects of SC sustainability. This part provides valuable insights for academic researchers, decision-makers, and experts, enhancing their understanding of how MCDM methods can be applied effectively in the SSC context from a manufacturing perspective.
