Radiotherapy (RT) is the first choice of treatment for the vast majority of uveal melanomas. It delivers highly localized and uniform dose distributions, which makes it particularly advantageous for treating large tumors and tumors located close to the optic nerve or macula. Rates of local tumor control are high. Eye conservation and, in many cases, maintenance of useful vision is possible despite vision-threatening side effects, such as maculopathy and papillopathy.
