This paper discusses the integration of assets in a federated ecosystem in alignment with the Gaia-X framework, with a focus on semantics and Access Control Mechanisms (ACMs). The Gaia-X project, intended to support data and service ecosystems, aids data integration and valorisation in public and industrial settings, promoting data exchange among diverse stakeholders. However, its scope does not extend beyond delineating the service access point or providing a unified semantic description for the operation of the service or data. Additionally, it doesn’t provide clear guidance on ACMs. Our proposed solution uses the V-Model methodology for a systematic progression from use case conception to implementation, coupling high-level ecosystem frameworks with existing decentralized semantically described resources. This approach enhances usability, lowers entry barriers, and facilitates operationalisation within the ecosystem, while enabling precise access control.
