The Smart List system addresses the problem of rising prices. A web application was developed that recommends alternative products for supermarket shopping lists with better prices and quality. Several algorithms were developed, based mainly on collaborative filtering and clustering, to assist users with creating a shopping list that best fits their preferences for products and budget. The users can, but do not need to, input specific preferences, as these can be inferred from the items added to their shopping lists. Thus, dynamic recommendations are given that respond to the changing user needs and product prices. This deployed system scrapes the product data and prices from the webstores of the three largest Greek supermarkets, assisting users to create shopping lists from combinations of products considering the user budget and supermarket preferences.
