Blockchain Adoption in the Financial Sector of the MET Region: Enablers and Barriers
摘要
Blockchain technology (BC) is rapidly evolving, leading to the transformation and disruption of various sectors. There is a noticeable lack of research about the Middle East and Turkey (MET) region’s blockchain adoption, despite the growing interest in BC worldwide. This paper aims to study the enablers and barriers of BC adoption in the financial sector of the MET region through the lens of the Technology Organization Environment (TOE) theory, where technology adoption is influenced by technological characteristics, organizational context, and external environment. The article adheres to a qualitative methodology by conducting interviews with key people in the financial sector within the MET region to present our findings and discussion. The findings show the BC adoption’s enablers and barriers based on the TOE theory three pillars. Moreover, three calls for future studies were recorded to investigate into BC role in sustainable finance and a necessity for legitimacy and more independency.
