In addition to optical, atomic, and ionic systems, information processing can also be carried out with qubits formed within solid-state systems. In this chapter, brief introductions are given to several of these solid-state platforms, including quantum dots, superconducting qubits, and nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers.
