Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) uses signals emitted by perturbed nuclear spins to track the distributions of different nuclei within a material sample. Besides having real-world applications ranging from medical diagnostics to art restoration and archaeology, it was one of the first physical platforms used to successfully implement quantum computing operations on a small scale. In the following sections, we will discuss the principles of NMR in general, and then in the final section of the chapter, its application for storing and manipulating qubits will be discussed.
