Hypertension is recognized as a strong determinant of worse renal and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with chronic kidney diseases (CKD), and CKD directly affects the management of hypertensive patients. Therefore, an accurate assessment of kidney function using reliable markers of glomerular and tubular functions is important for an adequate management of CKD patients with hypertension. Moreover, the use of radiological imaging such as kidney ultrasound or magnetic resonance is useful not only to diagnose some secondary causes of hypertension, such as renal artery stenosis or specific kidney diseases, but also to assess the impact of long-standing hypertension on kidney tissue such as the degree of tissue fibrosis or the extent of vascular damages. In recent years, several major developments have occurred among renal markers as well as new imaging techniques. The goal of this chapter is to review and discuss these new developments.
