Critical Evaluation of Resources/Issues and Integrated Island Management Plan (IIMP) for the Sustainable Development of the Lakshadweep Islands
摘要
The coastal areas along the Indian coast and small islands, such as the Lakshadweep group of islands located in the northern part of Arabian Sea, are subjected to ecological, economic, and natural hazard threats. To promote sustainable growth and development, the Integrated Island Management Pan (IIMP) is prepared in accordance with the guidelines provided in the Island Protection Zone (IPZ) Notification of MoEF&CC, GoI in 2011. The IPZ is a forward-looking notification with a view of providing livelihood security to the local communities and also to promote conservation and protection of islands including the vulnerability of the coast to natural hazards. In addition to this, the chapter also critically examines the Coastal Regulation Zone, 1991 notification that regulated all development activities in a defined coastal zone with a No Development Zone within the framework of a management plan.
