CCUS in the UAE
摘要
The United Arab Emirates (“UAE”) recognizes the urgent need to diversify its energy mix and reduce its carbon footprint. It has integrated Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (“CCUS”) into its national strategy. This chapter provides an overview of relevant CCUS projects in the UAE and respective regulatory framework, highlighting the nation’s commitment to mitigating climate change. The UAE’s proactive approach includes hosting the 28th Conference of the Parties (“COP28”) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, emphasizing the importance of CCUS in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. The paper identifies further steps required for the wider adoption of CCUS in the UAE and underscores the UAE’s commitment to CCUS as a vital technology for achieving its climate goals and calls for the further development of the legal framework and the integration of technology innovation to enhance the effectiveness of CCUS technologies.
