This chapter attempts to summarize the System-on-Chip (SoC) security and IoT edge node security issues. SoC security/hardware security is a matter concerned with SoC design house/ODM (Original Design manufacturer) to protect their revenue and reputation. The security issues connected with IoT edge node are tightly connected with SoC security issues. Counterfeiting, malicious attacks, information leakage, and IP violations are common to both SoC security and IoT edge node security. The countermeasures designed against SoC security issues can be directly used or scaled up to address the IoT edge node security issues. To address the security issues of both SoC device and IoT edge node, centralized security IP is a promising and comprehensive solution. In this chapter, we present a review of countermeasures designed to address both SoC security and edge node security and analyze the necessity of centralized security IP. We also present a review of existing centralized security IPs from both industry and academia. Finally, we discuss the properties that need to be incorporated into future centralized security IP and present a conceptual foundation for centralized security IP which fits into SoC devices targeted to design IoT edge nodes.
