A Novel Process for Indium Recovery from Waste Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) by Selective Sulfuration-Volatilization

IndiumIndium is a crucial material in photovoltaics, liquid crystal displays (LCDsLiquid Crystal Displays (LCDs)), and semiconductors because of its excellent optical properties and conductivity. Due to its scarcity, indiumIndium was often recovered from waste materials such as LCDsLiquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), ITO targets, and photovoltaic modules. The traditional hydrometallurgical process of recyclingRecycling waste LCDsLiquid Crystal Displays (LCDs) has been long and produced many liquid wastes. A novel method of selective sulfurationSulfuration-volatilization had been developed, which involved the roasting of the material with ferrous sulfide in a controlled atmosphere of CO and CO2. IndiumIndium was found to be enriched in the volatiles, in which indiumIndium tin oxide and indiumIndium tin sulfide were the principal forms, with particle sizes between 120 and 250 nm. Under optimal conditions, the recovery of indiumIndium is 93.51%.
