Feasibility Study on Offshore Wind Farms in Kudat

The demand for power is currently exceeding supply, and the world’s energy needs are growing at an alarming rate. It is common knowledge that fossil fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas are being utilized to generate power. Consequently, it might not be enough in the future to meet the world’s constantly rising need for electrical energy. Clean, dependable, and secure energy sources are what renewable energy can provide humanity. This study examined the uptake of renewable energy with an emphasis on offshore wind turbines (OWT). Due to its advantageous location at the confluence of the South China Sea and Sulu Sea, Kudat, Sabah has been chosen as the site for the installation of offshore wind turbines in this case study. Given that the technology is situated in a windy region free from structures, other obstacles, and land features, it is anticipated to deliver high-power electricity with minimal environmental impact and maximum sustainability. This article has analyzed a number of elements, including depth of water, average wind speed, wind direction, and total dwelling unit, in order to determine the appropriate features for the type of offshore wind farm and offshore wind farm architecture in Kudat. To locate all the necessary components, this study used Windfinder, Google Earth Pro, Prediction of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER), and indications from the housing and population census. In Sabah, the OWT could emerge as a primary energy source. Therefore, the installation of offshore wind turbines in the Kudat residential area generates numerous advantages and advances the objective of the Malaysian government, which is to maintain national economic growth while becoming a more competitive player in the renewable energy generation market.
