Use of Steel Fibers to Develop High-Strength Artificial Stones

Artificial rocks are typically composed of low fractions of polymer matrixPolymer matrix and high levels of solid waste. Fibers have been used as a form of reinforcement in the ornamental rock industry to give greater tenacity to natural materials. Thus, the present work aims to investigate the effect of inserting steel fibers into the structure of artificial rocks, seeking to change the mechanical behavior of the rocks. The rocks were produced through the vacuum vibrocompression method, using 15% epoxy resin in relation to the granite mass and incorporating the contents of 1, 3, 5, and 7% steel fibers into the rocks. The mechanical strength analysis showed an improvement from 22 to 50 MPa in the bending test.
