Bioethical questions often involve intersecting concerns from diverse fields of study including life sciences, biotechnology, public health, medicine, public policy, law, philosophy and theology. They arise in clinical research, and political arenas, usually in response to advances in biology, healthcare, and technology, particularly biotechnology. As technology advances ever more quickly, and questions involving its implementation become more complex, bioethics will continue to grow and become increasingly important. Contemporary developments in the life sciences, for example, genetic engineering, cloning, manipulation of cell lines, exploitation of genetic resources, etc. have given rise to intense arguments about the ethical dimension of these new technologies. The morality of patents in biotechnology is a contentious issue, with global implications for private and public sectors, countries, and bioethics. Patents are a form of intellectual property relevant to biotechnology. Intellectual property rights, including patents, plant breeders’ rights, copyrights, and trademarks, can impact ethical aspects of access to genetic information and ensure honest commercial practices. Biotechnology impacts human dignity, genetic integrity, access to health, scientific progress, equitable access, research consent, and environmental protection, posing significant human rights issues. The present study will delve into examining these questions. The study will attempt to explore the intellectual property-rights-related issues in biotechnology through the prism of bioethics.
