mRNA-Based Biosimilars as Next-Generation Vaccines

Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines, a revolutionary next-generation approach, exhibit versatility across diverse medical fields, addressing infectious diseases, immunotherapy, genetic disorders, regenerative medicine, and cancer. Offering advantages like safety, efficacy, adaptability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, these vaccines have undergone rapid evolution to overcome challenges in in vivo delivery and thermal stability. The biosynthesis involves transcription and splicing, resulting in various mRNA types, including conventional, self-amplifying, and circular mRNA. Nanoparticle-mediated delivery optimization ensures enhanced stability and efficacy. Recent technological advancements have surmounted delivery issues, propelling mRNA vaccines into the spotlight against infectious diseases and cancer. Despite challenges in efficient and immune-safe drug delivery, lipid nanoparticles have played a pivotal role in boosting mRNA vaccine delivery. Following their triumph in combating COVID-19, mRNA-based drugs are proposed for a spectrum of diseases. This comprehensive literature covers the types of mRNA and their synthesis, their applications, limitations, and future perspectives, shedding light on the exciting potential of mRNA vaccines as the next frontier in vaccine technology.
