Economic Analysis of AI Integration in Internet of Drones (IoD)

The Internet of Drones (IoD) is a new technological area which can completely change several industries. This chapter looks at the economic consequences of AI integration in IoD systems. Through the examination of the economic approaches, the cost and benefit structures and the present market situation, the study aims to evaluate the economic feasibility and the potential ROI of the AI-driven IoD. The fast expansion of drone sector, with a market size estimated to be at $42.8 billion by 2025. The AI integration is going to bring a lot of economic advantages, such as the drone operations will be more efficient, the human labour cost will be reduced and we will have more reliability and safety of the objectives. A 2021 study by McKinsey & Company estimates that AI can generate $1.2 trillion to $2.2 trillion of annual value added to the global economy by 2030. However, challenges remain. The initial costs of the AI development, the drones and the training of the workforce are the obstacles that are coming. The issues of data privacy, air traffic management and liability are the ones that need to be analysed. Also, the possible job displacement caused by automation means that workforce reskilling and upskilling programs should be implemented. The examination covers the economic models for AI-powered IoD that are based on pay-per-use drone services, subscription-based data analytics and public–private partnerships for the infrastructure development. A cost–benefit analysis framework is set up to pinpoint the economic factors and to estimate the long-term impact of AI integration in IoD. The study ends by discussing the future areas of research, such as the technological progress in AI for IoD, the economic consequences of these developments and the ways to promote the innovation and the general use of the AI-powered IoD systems.
