Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. Tangling of the Tau protein within the brain is the primary cause of the disease. The tangles sequentially attack portions of the brain as the disease progresses with synapses being especially vulnerable. The attack is debilitating to the neural networks and ultimately to the human subjects. Destruction of the neural networks occurs simultaneously in both long-term and short-term memory. This disease is incurable, but promising approaches to the cure are in development.
