The devastating 6 February 2023 (at 04:17 TRT/01:17 UTC), a Mw 7.8 earthquake southern and central Turkey and northern and western Syria raised some fundamental questions across the Arabian Peninsula communities about a potential trigger of such large magnitude earthquake to initiate volcanism across the region. This question time to time reappear in the research themes but never been addressed and moreover systematically tested. In this short note this question is posed again and put in the light of the currently known geological context of the connection of seismicity and dispersed volcanism, commonly termed as monogenetic volcanism. This is an important aspect of geohazard of the Arabian Peninsula, where abundant volcanic fields formed in the Cenozoic, mostly in a broad zone along the western plate margin associated with various rifting stages commonly associated with the Red Sea Rift. The focused overview here provides some potential directions of future research to understand this process and develop useful hazard mitigation strategies from monitoring to actions in case of disaster strikes.

Potential Relationship Between Seismicity and Volcanism of Quaternary Monogenetic Volcanic Fields of Saudi Arabia
