摘要

This paper will discuss the work done in friction stir weldingFriction stir welding dissimilar sheets of 6061-T4 in the lap configuration at feed rates of 10 m per minute, termed ultra high-speed feed rates. The process parameters such as RPM and process depth will be quantified and discussed for various feed rates. Weld characteristics will be discussed, including results from mechanical testing such as tensile and fatigue tests, along with results from hardnessHardness testing and orientation imaging microscopy. It was found that each significant increase in feed rates above 10 m per minute causes changes in the weld properties and thus full characterizationsCharacterization of each set of weld parameters must be quantified and examined to determine the optimal parameter set for each feed rate.
