Several new green technologies that can increase productivity, lessen environmental impact, and encourage resource recovery have the potential to completely transform waste management procedures. Application of cutting-edge recycling techniques like pyrolysis, gasification, and chemical recycling provide creative ways to transform different kinds of waste materials into useful resources. By processing mixed or contaminated waste streams that are challenging to recycle with traditional techniques, these systems can create chemicals, fuels, and raw materials for manufacture. Utilising microbial activity, biological waste treatment techniques such as anaerobic digestion and composting break down organic waste and create biogas, compost, and soil amendments. Further, organic waste is converted by anaerobic digestion into digestate and biogas (methane), which can be utilised to produce energy and improve soil quality. This process further helps organic waste to convert into nutrient-rich compost by composting, which improves soil fertility and health. With the advancement in modern technologies, integrated waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities have the potential to produce renewable energy, divert garbage from landfills, and lessen environmental pollution. To improve the sorting and separation procedures for recyclable materials, material recovery facilities (MRFs) are integrating advanced automation and robotics technologies. Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning algorithms enable robotic systems to recognise and classify various waste products more effectively, boosting recycling rates and lowering contamination. By enabling real-time trash transaction monitoring, recycled material tracing, and verification of regulatory and sustainability standard compliance, blockchain-based platforms improve waste management techniques’ accountability and transparency. These decentralised solutions can support the circular economy by lowering transportation costs, increasing resource efficiency, and enabling local communities to handle their garbage. It can be concluded by saying that we can revolutionise waste management techniques, reduce environmental pollution, and advance a circular economy that optimises resource recovery and sustainability by utilising the promise of these cutting-edge green technology.
