Group Authentication and Key Management Protocol with Chinese Remainder Theorem in Multicast Communication

Multicast communication facilitates data transmission from one sender to multiple receivers simultaneously. Unlike unicast communication, which directs data to a single recipient, and broadcast communication, which disseminates data to all network devices, multicast efficiently delivers data to a specific group of recipients who express interest in it. The evolving communication landscape presents a significant challenge in securing applications that collect and transfer confidential information. Ensuring such data’s validity, integrity, and secrecy is paramount, all while minimizing the computational and communication overhead of security functions to accommodate the many resource-constrained devices involved. This paper presents a novel protocol called the Group Authentication and Key Management Protocol with Chinese Remainder Theorem in Multicast Communication (AuthKMP_CRT), which enhances the anonymity of devices and safeguards against attacks like replay attacks, Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks and impersonation attacks compared to The Centralized Group Key Management Scheme Based-Chinese Remainder Theorem in Multicast Communication (CGKMS_CRT) by Chen and Miao. Leveraging the Chinese Remainder Theorem (CRT), this protocol enables the acquisition of group keys through a single modular operation. Additionally, the paper provides a comprehensive security analysis and performance evaluation.
