The efficacy of OCR systems is intricately linked to text segmentation, a process heavily influenced by the quality of the paper utilized in newspaper printing. This paper delves into the myriad challenges associated with the optical conversion of newspaper pages, with a specific focus on the distinctive issues encountered in the identification of Punjabi newspapers. Addressing these challenges is imperative for the accurate recognition of text in Punjabi newspapers. Several complications and unresolved problems unique to Punjabi newspaper identification are explored, emphasizing the necessity for tailored solutions. The paper also elucidates various techniques designed to mitigate these challenges, offering insights into potential resolutions. In this paper, we have compared 4 different newspapers of the Punjabi language to explore the difficulties in the Punjabi Recognition System. By navigating and resolving these obstacles, advancements in OCR accuracy for Punjabi newspapers can be achieved, facilitating the preservation and accessibility of historical information embedded in these valuable printed artifacts.
