Food allergy is a growing concern in India, and there is a need for innovative solutions to help individuals manage their conditions effectively. This study presents the development of AllerGuard, a user-centered mobile health intervention designed to empower food-allergic individuals in India. The development process involved contextual inquiries, surveys, and interviews with healthcare professionals and food-allergic individuals. The proposed system integrates a mobile application and a wearable device, offering features such as symptom tracking, meal logging, and pollen trigger alerts, all informed by the Health Belief Model. Additionally, AllerGuard provides seamless access to emergency medical services and fosters a supportive community platform, grounded in the principles of Social Cognitive Theory. By leveraging mobile technology, wearable devices, and behavior change theories, AllerGuard aims to enhance the quality of life for food-allergic individuals in India. This study serves as a basis for creating comparable mHealth initiatives targeting chronic conditions in resource-limited settings.
