The total hip arthroplasty (THA) is undoubtedly one of the most successful operations in all of orthopedics. With improved comorbidity management, patients have benefited from their THAs for longer into their lifespans, increasing the prevalence of geriatric patients with THAs, decreasing bone density, and an increased risk of periprosthetic fracture (Ehlinger et al., Orthop Traumatol Surg Res 100(6):657–662, 2014). Additionally, as surgical techniques and implant technology have improved, younger patients with hip dysplasia and non-reconstructible hips after trauma are undergoing THA at an increasing rate. Patient risk factors for periprosthetic fracture include: male sex, age under 80 years, posterolateral approach, and press fit stem fixation (Moerman et al., Acta Orthop 89:509–514, 2018). This chapter mainly deals with patients with Vancouver B2 or B3 periprosthetic hip fractures about total hip arthroplasties who are indicated for revision arthroplasty.
