This study investigates the implication of land uses/land cover (LULC) dynamic to farmers’ herder's conflicts across Pama, Manga, and Ouahigouya located in Burkina Faso. For this purpose, LULC changes from remotely sensed satellite imagery were analyzed. Indeed, multidate images including historical satellite imageries for 1990, 2002, and 2015 were retrieved from Landsat thematic Mapper (TM) and OLI-TIRS to determine both landscape features. All images have a spatial resolution of 30 m and were geometrically rectified and registered to a common projection using the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM). Two software (Envi 4.7 and Arcgis 10.3) were utilized for satellite image processing. Both unsupervised and supervised classifications were selected to identify LULC categories. The main features of LULC change during 1990–2015 can be generalized as Forest gallery, housing areas, water bodies, wooded savannah, tree savannah, bare soils, and cultivated areas. Over Manga, during the period 1990–2002, forest galleries increased by a rate of 7%, and wooded savannah decreased up to 31,1% between 1990–2002 and 2002–2015. Within Ouahigouya during the period of the analysis, the wooded savannah has decreased by a rate of 13.61%, between 2002–2015, the rate of decrease of wooded savannah was up to 0.49%. Cultivated areas have expanded up to 14.94% during 1990–2002. Tree Savannah decreased to 33.71% over 1990–2002 and up to 1.95% over 2002–2015. Most respondents attributed herders-farmers to poor management of natural resources (50%) and competition for natural resources within the study area. In addition, according to the population, agricultural land expansion combined with the mining boom is increasing land competition and constitutes in this way a main factor of pastoralism conflict within the study areas.
