Introduction to European Data Related Regulation
摘要
“Data is the new gold”—this is a statement that is often heard in the context of digital services, Artificial Intelligence and the like. There is indeed some truth to it and thus it is essential that data is managed in a fair and transparent manner for all stakeholders. On the other hand, the term “data” is rather abstract and has a multitude of facets. There are so many angles to it that it is challenging to have it covered through a single legislation. In Europe, the management of data is implemented through an interplay of multiple regulations, including the Digital Markets Act, the Regulation on a Single Market for Digital Services, the Data Governance Act, the Data Act, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and others. Each of those is considering the management of data from a specific perspective. In the present chapter, we give an overview onto selected key regulations in the context of data management. Note that there are further European regulations of relevance to the topic of data and data management but the authors choose to limit the discussion in the present chapter to the above mentioned legal Acts which they consider key.
