Mechatronic Framework for Smart Beehives: Prototyping and Applications Perspective
摘要
This paper addresses the growing significance of apiculture in Brazil, particularly the challenges faced by beekeepers and the potential for technological solutions. Despite a notable increase in honey production and the positive impact of apiculture on biodiversity and agricultural pollination, the sector continues to be largely informal, family-based and with a predominance of manual processes. The study aims to contribute to the advancement of beekeeping technology through the development of an alpha prototype of a hive box with an integrated monitoring solution based on the Internet of Things (IoT). The prototype evaluates variables in real time such as air temperature, humidity, noise levels, luminosity, and hive weight. The project is guided by a reference model for mechatronic systems to guarantee the success of the product, which in its final version should be able to improve the efficiency of hive management, the well-being of bees and the quality of honey, increasing, ultimately, overall productivity. Future steps, such as evolutions of power systems and materials of the prototype are outlined, in order to allow for broader applicability of the solution in the Federal District of Brazil and surrounding areas.
