This paper raises the question of the history of digital systems development in the economy and analyzes it. The relevance of this topic lies in understanding the evolution of enterprises’ and businesses’ needs for digitalization. Analyzing the evolution technical support for these needs is also significant. The main purpose of this work is to analyze the reasons for information systems’ development and the progress of their improvement to provide the required level of support. Another important task is to analyze what direction this development is heading towards in terms of information systems. At the beginning of the project, the first needs for digital support of the business are identified, the causes and consequences of these needs are analyzed, and the technical aspects of developing digital systems are also considered. Then, an analysis of existing solutions in information systems for business support is conducted. Based on this analysis, conclusions are drawn and a multi-agent approach to supporting business processes is described.
