The Transformative Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Digital Maturity of Hospitals
摘要
Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the digital maturity of hospitals in the USA across multiple domains, including clinical operations, quality and safety, and consumer engagement. This chapter explores how AI integration enhances digital maturity, particularly through tools such as machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, impacting both clinical and administrative processes. The author emphasizes the use of AI in clinical decision support, medical imaging, and personalized medicine, showcasing its role in improving diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency. Additionally, the chapter discusses the importance of standardized digital maturity frameworks and introduces new AI-specific maturity models, such as the proposed Five-point Scale for hospital AI Implementation; the ADAM Framework which parallels the Society of Automotive Engineers’ framework for autonomous vehicles; the proposed five-point scale for hospital AI implementation; Clinical AI Sociotechnical Framework (CASoF); and the Organizational Perspective Checklist for AI (OPTICA) Solution Adoption. These scales provide alternative structured approaches for evaluating and implementing AI tools, ensuring they are integrated safely and effectively into healthcare settings. The chapter also highlights challenges related to data quality, ethical considerations, and the need for robust governance frameworks. By examining case studies and proposing strategies for overcoming these barriers, the study provides actionable insights for hospitals aiming to achieve full digital maturity through AI adoption, ultimately transforming them into intelligent health systems.
