Effect of Magnesium Oxide on Performance of Alkaline Iron Ore Pellets

In recent years, with the application of large amounts of high-aluminium iron ore and smelting technology of a high proportion of iron ore pelletsIron ore pellet in blast furnace burden, ratio of magnesium/aluminum in blast furnace slag tended to fall. To improve the mass fraction of magnesium oxideOxides, the effect of three different magnesium-containing fluxesMagnesium-containing flux on the performance of alkalineAlkaline iron ore pelletsIron ore pellet was investigated. Results showed that there was some adverse effect of magnesium-containing flux A on the compressive strength of green alkalineAlkaline iron ore pelletsIron ore pellet, while there was an adverse effect of magnesium-containing flux C on drop numbers of the pellets, which may be related to the presence of unslaked quicklime in magnesium-containing C. With the MgOMgO mass fraction increasing, the compressive strength of alkalineAlkaline iron ore pelletsIron ore pellet after roastingRoasting showed a decreasing trend. Adding magnesium-containing flux was beneficial to decreasing reduction swelling index and improving reduction degreeReduction degree of alkalineAlkaline iron ore pelletsIron ore pellet after roastingRoasting. On the whole, the effect of magnesium-containing flux A on compressive strength and reduction performance of the pellets was the least, while that of magnesium-containing flux B was the greatest.
