Pot Shell Demolition Facility Reliability Improvement for EGA Smelter
摘要
Emirates Global AluminumAluminum (EGA) executed a project to improve the reliability of pot shell demolition facility by enhancing the existing equipment design. The operation of this facility is directly linked with hot metalMetals production in an aluminum smeltingAluminum smelting plant. The cleaning process of shell which contains frozen aluminumAluminum pads, carbonCarbon blocks with metalMetals collector bars and refractory lining material are being carried out by 4 numbers of fixed articulated boomsArticulated boom inside an acoustic chamber to reduce environmental air and sound pollution. These units are working under 260 bar hydraulic pressure. The system is equipped with two jack hammers, crusher jaw, scrapper and a bucket. Cleaning of accumulated material from pot cell is carried out inside an acoustic chamber which is a mandate and is necessary before the relining process. The shell after cleaning and relining process goes to potlines to produce aluminumAluminum metalMetals. This paper details the initial challenges, and the successful modification of the pot demolitionPot demolition facility which minimized the safetySafety concerns and operational issues. The modified plants are having added features that reduce the load on operators and improve plant’s reliability.
