Changes in natural and socio-economic environment require new technical solutions for construction of new and modernization of existing structures. Buildings, infrastructure and the entire built environment should be better prepared for the new conditions – they should be sustainable, resilient and adaptable to new situations. Sustainable and resilient approach to design and construction should be thus based on revised requirements and updated standards which will consider development of boundary conditions within the predicted lifetime of structure. Concrete and new advanced types of silicate composites have gradually become building materials with a high potential for new technical solutions, leading to the necessary reduction in environmental impacts and social and economic improvements. Recent developments in concrete composition, production technology and the development of concrete structures have led to improved technical parameters while reducing environmental impacts. Thanks to the optimization of the mixture, the new types of concrete have significantly better properties in terms of strength, mechanical resistance, durability and resistance to extreme loads. New reinforcement methods using non-steel reinforcement such as carbon rods, fibres or textile mesh bring additional benefits in terms of sustainability and resilience.

摘要
